Incumbent Anna Bergman Pierce will return to the Waukee City Council and will be joined by two new members Lori Lyon and Kala Anderson for the three at-large seats that represent the entire suburb.
Lyon led all candidates with 27% of votes, followed by Bergman Pierce with 20% and Anderson with 19%. The election results still need to be certified by the Dallas County auditor.
Incumbents Charlie Bottenberg and Ben Sinclair did not run for reelection.
Lyon, 60, a retired educator and now a part-time private reading education consultant, said the city’s biggest challenge is managing the rapid growth within the confines of the budget.
“Providing services, facilities, and amenities that our community enjoys and expects will also be important to balance as we manage growth.” Lyon said in a Des Moines Register candidate questionnaire.
Bergman Pierce, 34, an attorney, said she grew up in Waukee and has witnessed the city’s rapid growth.
“A critical piece of my job is to review and implement a transparent and responsible budget that aligns with the strategic priorities and plans we’ve set, that equips us with staff and other resources to continue to provide quality public safety and emergency responsiveness, excellent utility services, programming, community spaces, safe roads and trails, and infrastructure improvements,” she said in the questionnaire.
Anderson, 39, a project manager for a global IT company, said her focus is on ensuring safe, affordable childcare, keeping taxes low, and expanding access to affordable housing in Waukee.
