The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has identified the Waterloo man police shot and killed on Sunday, Nov. 16.
Benjamin Sink, 47, was wanted on several charges “related to a domestic relationship,” according to a DCI news release. Police say he refused to pull over around 9:30 p.m. when members of the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and several other local law enforcement agencies attempted to stop him.
During a pursuit, police disabled Sink’s vehicle using stop sticks. He allegedly exited his vehicle, produced a firearm and fired at officers, the news release says.
Deputies with the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol returned fire, striking Sink. He died at an area hospital.
The news release does not name the officers involved but said they are on critical incident leave. The officers were uninjured.
More details will be released after the Iowa attorney general and Grundy County attorney conduct reviews.
