North Polk school district opens new baseball and softball complex paid for by bond issue

The North Polk Community School District has celebrated the grand opening of its new baseball and softball complex.

Voters in November 2023 approved a $17 million bond issue for the school district to cover projects that included the new complex located southeast of North Polk High School and east of the school’s football field. The district celebrated the complex’s grand opening on June 12 with ceremonial first pitches, speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a varsity game.

Both fields each have synthetic turf, a press box and batting cages, said district spokesperson Hunter Fleshner.

There’s a central concession stand serving both fields. The stand will not be used during football season, Fleshner said.

In addition to the new baseball and softball complex, the bond issue also paid for a technical education addition to the high school and the renovation of some older elementary classrooms.
