Gilbert softball player Katie Sniezek and Ames baseball player Charles Tucker were voted the Ames Tribune’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners for the week of June 22-28.
Sniezek won female Athlete of the Week with 48% of the vote.
She had a big night driving in runs for the Gilbert softball team during an 11-0 victory at Ballard on June 24.
Sniezek went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and five RBIs for the Tigers during the victory. She also was a perfect 3-for-3 during Gilbert’s 3-1 home loss to Bondurant-Farrar on June 25.
Tucker won male Athlete of the Week with 50% of the vote.
He had a big week at the plate for the Ames baseball team.
Tucker went a combined 5-for-12 at the plate with two doubles and six walks during the week. He scored 11 runs and finished with four RBIs over five games.
He also got the win on the mound in a 6-4 victory over Marshalltown as part of a doubleheader on June 24. He gave up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in two scoreless innings.
