In incredible fashion, Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin recorded a new career high on Wednesday night against the New York Liberty through a fourth-quarter offensive explosion.
Despite New York ultimately escaping victorious, Martin contributed 14 points in the game’s final 8:35 to total 21 points on 7-for-15 shooting from the field, including 4-for-10 from 3-point range.
In addition to her scoring, the second-year player out of Iowa gathered two rebounds and one assist in her 24 minutes of action.
While Martin has been used primarily as a sharpshooter off the bench, she was able to provide a much-needed spark to the Golden State offense through four deep 3-pointers that drew the Valkyries closer to the Liberty late in the game.
Given her fourth-quarter contributions on Wednesday, she should be able to garner more playing time from the coaching staff in the future, as her 3-point accuracy is her biggest strength.
The next game for Martin and the Valkyries will be on Friday night from Chase Center in San Francisco, California, when Golden State hosts the Chicago Sky. That game will begin at 9 p.m. CT and be broadcast on ION.
