Iowa women's basketball demolishes Evansville: Final score, instant recap, highlights

The 23rd-ranked Iowa women’s basketball (2-0) squad enjoyed a record-setting offensive performance in a blowout 119-43 win over Evansville (0-2) for its second win of the season.

The Hawkeyes got scoring from all over the lineup, as every player who touched the floor had at least two points.

Leading the team in scoring was Layla Hays, who posted 20 points on 9-for-11 shooting from the field and 2-for-5 from the free-throw line off the bench in her 20 minutes of action. The freshman from Wasilla, Alaska, would also add five rebounds and one assist to her total.

Not far behind Hays on the scoring list were Chazadi Wright (18), Ava Heiden (14), Hannah Stuelke (13), Taylor McCabe (12), and Addie Deal (11).

Overall, the team shot 42-for-65 from the floor, 14-for-26 from deep, and 21-for-28 from the charity stripe for a new program scoring record at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Defensively, the Hawkeyes forced 20 turnovers, including 11 steals and three blocks. Those defensive stops translated directly into offense, as Iowa totaled 32 points off turnovers and had 29 fast-break points.

Iowa’s next opponent will be the Drake Bulldogs, who will travel to Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Nov. 13. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
