A portion of Interstate 80 between the north side of Des Moines and Altoona will close for overnight construction starting Sunday, Aug. 2.
Iowa Department of Transportation crews will complete nighttime construction work on I-80, requiring overnight interstate closures that end the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Here’s what to know about the closures and where to detour.
When will the Iowa DOT close I-80?
I-80 westbound will be closed between the Northeast Mixmaster and U.S. 65, including the eastbound/northbound I-235 ramp and the U.S. 65 ramp, beginning on Sunday, Aug. 2, at 9 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3.
I-80 eastbound in the same stretch, as well as associated ramps, will close beginning on Monday, Aug. 3, at 10 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
What’s the detour when the Iowa DOT closes I-80?
The I-80 westbound closure will require drivers to go south on U.S. 65 and take Hubbell Avenue and then East Euclid Avenue to I-235. Once on I-235, drivers will need to head north onto I-35 toward Ankeny, take the Corporate Woods Drive exit, turn around to southbound on I-235, and merge back onto I-80 westbound.
The I-80 eastbound closure will require drivers to continue or merge south onto I-235, turn onto East Euclid Avenue, then Hubbell Avenue, merge onto U.S. 65, and then get back onto I-80 eastbound.
