Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders talk at Browns training camp. Day 4 updates

BEREA ― There’s a rest day awaiting the Browns on Aug. 2. However, they need to get through Day 4 of training camp on Aug. 1 before they can get there.

The first full-squad Saturday workout is also a milestone in the camp. It marks the final day of the mandated five-day ramp-up period before the Browns can transition into full pads.

That first full-pad practice will be Aug. 3. That starts a six-practices-in-six-days stretch for the Browns, something only permitted by the collective bargaining agreement prior to a team’s first preseason game.

That first preseason game comes Aug. 15 at the Chicago Bears. That, however, is still a couple of weeks away. For now, follow along here for updates as the Browns go through Day 4 of training camp in Berea:

Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson each end practice with interceptions

The final series of practice was a 2-minute drill. Shedeur Sanders’ final throw during his time with the No. 1s was an interception as D’Angelo Ross picked off a jump ball down the sideline intended for Jerry Jeudy that was his first

Deshaun Watson, meanwhile, ended the practice with a wobbler into the end zone that was picked off by safety Christopher Edmonds. Edmonds had two of the three interceptions thrown by Watson.

Dillon Gabriel also threw his second pick of camp.

Alex Wright, KT Leveston at center of 1st training camp fight

Nothing like a little flare-up to get the juices flowing. Defensive end Alex Wright and guard KT Leveston were the primary combatants in a scuffle during a red-zone 11-on-11 period, although it may have started with defensive tackle Sam Kamara and right tackle Tytus Howard.

Wright appeared to deliver a punch at one point, although it didn’t quite land. He remained fairly hot even as the period ended, continuing to bark at one of the offensive players as they broke into a special teams drill.

Carson Schwesinger not practicing for Cleveland Browns

Second-year linebacker Carson Schwesinger was on the field but watching without a helmet on Day 4. No reason has been given, as of yet.

Also not practicing were wide receiver Jamari Thrash, guard Teven Jenkins, defensive tackle Maliek Collins (PUP) and Kalia Davis. Tight end Joe Royer remains out for personal reasons.

Harold Fannin Jr., Myles Harden return to practice for Cleveland Browns

Second-year tight end Harold Fannin Jr. was back at practice. The Canton native had missed on Friday due to personal reasons.

Cornerback Myles Harden also returned to practice. He had left with an undisclosed issue previously.

Todd Monken indicates true starting QB evaluations start after install

Browns coach Todd Monken finally provided a little insight into a timeline for the quarterback competition. Not necessarily for a decision, but for a true beginning.

“When I’m scripting, I really am not scripting based on who’s a quarterback,” Monken said prior to practice. “They each have a different skill set. So as of right now, I’m not evaluating any of them. I’m not making a decision on any of them until we get through all the installs and we get to where, OK, the practices are the same. We’re scripting it based on who’s taking the reps. And we’re playing the preseason games or we’re going against the Bills (in a joint practice) … I’ll take that back. We are evaluating, but not to that extreme. Nothing’s going to be decided over these install practices.

“We’re just getting it in, letting the guys compete, see where we’re at. That’s all positions. And then once we get further along in pads, the full installs are in, we get to compete against other people. That’s really when I’m going to be able to see it because I haven’t coached any of the four quarterbacks ’til now.”

The installation practices Monken is referring to will extend through next week.
