Garden Walks with Judy: Tour open gardens in Iowa City

Project GREEN’s annual open garden weekend is Saturday, June 28 and Sunday, June 29. They have 22 gardens to show from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday and again from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets are not required, but you will want to pick up a map at one of the generous businesses that sponsor these two days of great garden walks.

Ask for the maps at Hills Bank, HyVee, Iowa City Landscaping, Pyramid Services, ForeverGreen Landscapes, Ace Hardware, Sanders Creek Company, and Sustainable Landscapes Solutions during their business hours.

Look for the “Open Garden” signs and find beautiful large gardens, small patios filled with plants, raised beds, garden art, cutting, wildflower, water, shade and rock gardens.

Most are in the Iowa City/Coralville area, but do take a short drive near West Branch and down a few country roads to see some first-time gardens. The weather is supposed to be a bit cooler, so find your comfortable shoes and come out to see the talents of these many gardeners. It will be a great way to welcome summer.
