The Ducktail Lounge in Clive is temporarily closed after a car ran into the building Sunday, July 26.
An unimpaired driver pulled into the lounge’s parking lot at 5:57 p.m. and accidentally pressed the gas pedal instead of the brakes, according to the Clive Police Department. The car then slammed into The Ducktail Lounge, causing an estimated total of $100,000 worth of damages to the building and $10,000 for the vehicle.
No one was injured.
According to the bar’s owner, Doug McGhee, the accident destroyed both bathrooms. On their Facebook page, The Ducktail Lounge joked “it was time for a remodel anyway.”
While repairing, McGhee plans on modernizing the color scheme of the bar and replacing some televisions, which had been bought new for the World Cup.
McGhee said he hopes to reopen for business by July 29, and the bar will “be back to normal” in the next month.
