Ankeny Centennial girls golfer Cate Trewet and Valley boys soccer player Leighton Hukee were voted the Des Moines Register’s female and male Athlete of the Week winners from the Des Moines metro area for April 12-18.
Trewet won female Athlete of the Week with 53% of the vote.
Trewet took third behind a pair of Marshalltown golfers with a strong 18-hole round for the Ankeny Centennial girls golf team at the Toni Dickey Hawkette Golf Invitational on April 16 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny.
Trewet carded a 9-over-par round of 80. She finished just one stroke behind leaders Morgan Hilderbrand and Harper Wilson of Marshalltown, who both shot a 79.
Hukee earned male Athlete of the Week honors with 39% of the vote.
Hukee picked up a hat trick in scoring all three goals for the Valley boys soccer team during its 3-0 victory over Marshalltown on April 17 in West Des Moines.
Hukee converted all three of his shots on goal to account for all of the scoring in the game.
