Caitlin Clark teammate reveals WNBA fine after viral TikTok post

After posting a viral TikTok on July 17 that subtly criticized the league-wide inconsistency of the WNBA’s officiating, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham revealed on Wednesday that she received a minor monetary penalty from the league as a result of her social media video.

While the brunt of the criticism regarding inconsistency from officials has stemmed from the mistreatment of Caitlin Clark, there have been numerous outcries from stars elsewhere in the league, such as Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese.

In a social media post regarding the fine, Cunningham continued her slight jab at the league’s officiating problem when she revealed the fine by laughing at the penalty and sarcastically adding that there is nothing more important to the league right now than slapping a fine on her video.

“I got fined $500 for this TikTok. idk why this is funny to me… like ok, you got it bud! Cause there’s not more important things to be worried about with our league right now.”

Cunningham has been at the forefront of the on-court mistreatment of her fellow Fever teammate and a clutch sparkplug off the bench for head coach Stephanie White.

With Clark out again for Thursday’s home matchup vs. the Las Vegas Aces, as the former Hawkeye continues recovering from her right groin injury (her fourth different injury stint of the 2025 season), Cunningham will be looked upon to bring the same energy on the court by contributing valuable scoring bench for the Fever as the team pushes through sans their franchise cornerstone.

Indiana’s Thursday clash with the Aces from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tipoff and will be broadcast exclusively on Prime Video.
