Ankeny home shows off Tuscan theme with six bedrooms and entertainment features

An executive ranch home in Ankeny was extensively remodeled to capture the spirit of Tuscany across its six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and lower-level wine cellar and tasting room.

In addition to the European design inspiration, the previous owners invested a considerable amount of money in functional upgrades, said Realtor Tyler Wilson. “They put a new driveway in it, new HVAC, all sorts of stuff were spent to make this house their forever home,” he said.

Located two miles west of Prairie Trail’s popular roster of retail, restaurant and entertainment options, the 4,464-square-foot property adds a bonus 2,000 square feet of finished space on the lower level. Downstairs now features three bedrooms, a family room large enough to host a game area, a substantial wet bar with seating for four guests, and the unusual addition of a themed wine cellar, outfitted with tasting tables carved from wine barrels.

Behind double doors, the basement home theater has been elevated with stepped seating and a high-quality Sony 4K laser projector, included in the purchase price.

Upstairs, the Tuscany motif is evident from the moment guests walk through the front door. Tiled flooring, columns and stone arches help set the mood, and uncommon wall decorations separate the house from its contemporaries.

Casual dining opportunities are available in the open-plan kitchen, featuring a two-tier island and easy access to a covered patio.

Also on the main level, the primary bedroom has been upgraded with one of the home’s four gas fireplaces and connects to closet space and a bathroom with a walk-in shower and whirlpool tub.

A private door leads from the bedroom to the patio, and unobstructed views of the mature woodland that borders the backyard. Accessed from a walk-out deck wired for a hot tub, the rear of the property is currently centered around a fire pit, and a wide-open space prepped for future improvements. “It’s nice and flat, and you can add a pool,” Wilson said.

Both peaceful and secluded, the Westwinds housing development is well maintained by an annual $100 HOA fee and the conscientious efforts of fellow residents. “They just do a really, really good job of keeping the area clean. All those neighbors do,” Wilson said.

While the Tuscany “vibe,” as Wilson described it, might not appeal to every homeowner, potential buyers have voiced enthusiasm about the design choices and recent upgrades. “We get such cool feedback when people see it,” Wilson said. “People are like, ‘this is the nicest and cleanest house we’ve seen in this price point.’”

The home is listed at $859,900 by Tyler Wilson of Jennings Real Estate Team at RE/MAX Real Estate Center. Contact Wilson at 515-370-4643 for more information and a private showing.
