Anawim Housing, the largest permanent supportive housing provider in Iowa, has appointed Megan Milligan as its next president.
She will succeed Cynthia Latcham, who will step down after 12 years with the organization.
Milligan previously served with Anawim Housing as vice president from 2008 to 2014 alongside the group’s founder, Sister Stella Neill, before becoming president and CEO of the Iowa Center of Economic Success, according to a news release. Milligan will begin her new role Sept. 30 after nearly a two-month search for the organization’s next president.
“Megan’s experience, leadership, and deep understanding of Anawim’s mission make her uniquely qualified to lead us into our next chapter,” Dan Manning, chair of the Anawim Housing Board of Directors, said in a news release. “We are thrilled to welcome her back.”
Founded in 1987, Anawim Housing provides affordable housing to help the most vulnerable avoid homelessness. According to its website, nearly 1,000 individuals in Polk County live in their units. About 94% of tenants in its permanent supportive housing programs remain stably housed after one year.
Milligan helped the Iowa Center of Economic Success earn recognition as a Community Development Financial Institution from the U.S. Treasury Department, start up a small business preparation and planning program, and take charge of the group’s three lines of direct service. The nonprofit provides business coaching, lending and tax services to entrepreneurs.
A Des Moines resident, Milligan lives with her husband, Mike, and has three children — ajunior at the University of Iowa, a freshman at Iowa State University, and a 9th grader atDowling Catholic High School.
