PORT ST. LUCIE — The Treasure Coast is just months away from having a new hospital, and TCPalm was allowed a sneak peak of the facility during a tour Thursday.
Here’s what you need to know about the new Florida Coast Medical Center:
Where is the new hospital in Port St. Lucie?
Florida Coast Medical Center is at 310 S.E. Veranda Falls Way in Port St. Lucie, near the Florida Turnpike interchange at Becker Road.
When will the Florida Coast Medical Center open?
The main building of Florida Coast Medical Center is scheduled to open Sept. 9.
The adjacent medical office building may open as soon as May, CEO Tyler Sherrill said Thursday.
What procedures will be done at the Florida Coast Medical Center?
The hospital will feature a 24-hour emergency department, plus specific focuses on neurosciences, orthopedics, spine, robotics, general surgery, urology, advanced cardiac care and diagnostic services.
How big is the Florida Coast Medical Center?
The overall project includes 220,000 square feet of medical space at a cost of about $200 million.
The hospital is to include 54 beds, plus another 26 set aside for the emergency department.
There is room for future expansion, Sherrill said, including an 8-acre tree-covered lot across the parking lot from the main building, which the hospital already owns.
How many people will work at the Florida Coast Medical Center?
The hospital will employ about 300 people, Sherrill said.
What is Tenet Healthcare and Palm Beach Health Network?
Florida Coast Medical Center will be the sixth hospital in the Palm Beach Health Network, a subsidiary of the larger Tenet Healthcare system.
Dallas-based for-profit company Tenet Healthcare already has surgery centers in Vero Beach, Port St. Lucie, Jensen Beach and Stuart, but this would be its first hospital on the Treasure Coast.
Where are the other hospitals in St. Lucie County?
Florida Coast Medical Center will be the fourth full-service hospital in St. Lucie County, and the first new one to open in over a decade.
Tradition Hospital opened in late 2013 as part of Martin Health System, which later was acquired by Cleveland Clinic. HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital first opened in 1983 and HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital first opened in 1977.
