Iowa State football was able to lure a Cougar out of their hometown.
Wide receiver Braylon Lane announced June 18 that he was decommitting from Houston and switching allegiances to the Cyclones.
The three-star wide recruit from Houston, Texas, was initially committed to his hometown school, choosing the Cougars over other offers from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas, Mississippi State, Kentucky and Arizona State.
However, he recently completed a visit to Ames over the June 12-14 weekend and made his decision just days later.
As a junior at C.E. King High School, he helped the Panthers go 13-3 overall and make an appearance in the Texas Class 6A Division II state finals in 2025. He had 24 receptions for 282 yards and four touchdowns across 11 games during his high school’s state runner-up finish.
It is worth noting that current Iowa State wide receivers coach Derrick Sherman was previously a member of Houston’s coaching staff for the last two years before he joined Jimmy Rogers in Ames.
According to 247 Sports, Lane is the No. 136 wide receiver in the country and the No. 138 overall prospect in the state of Texas in the class of 2027.
He joins fellow wide receiver commits Blake Moser, Bryson Thompson and Jason Wooden. Overall, he is the 23rd commit for the Cyclones’ 2027 recruiting class.
