Florida 2026 election guide for voters: Candidates, issues, more

Here’s your one-stop spot for all Treasure Coast and Florida elections.

The 2026 election season officially began June 12, with the end of the qualifying period for federal, state and county races. Candidates who qualified by the deadline now have until Aug. 18 for primary campaigns and Nov. 3 for the general election to make their case to voters. Those who qualified without opposition were automatically elected or reelected.

Meet the candidates in the 2026 Florida governor, Florida Cabinet elections

The candidates for governor and Florida Cabinet are set as the qualifying period ended at noon, June 12.

By 9 p.m., there were 28 qualified candidates for governor on the state’s website: Eleven Republicans, six Democrats, one Libertarian, six affiliated with no party, and four candidates who ask supporters to fill their names in the write-in slot.   

Meet the candidates in the 2026 elections in Martin County, Florida

Fifty-five candidates qualified to run for 20 seats across Martin County. Winners of this year’s elections in Indiantown and Stuart will be decided Aug. 18. Voters in Sewall’s Point will go to the polls only in November. Elections in Jupiter Island and Ocean Breeze are scheduled for 2027.

The District 2 race for Martin County Commission is one to watch, as former Stuart Mayor Christopher Collins faces former traffic engineer Susan O’Rourke and author, Realtor and chef Althea Wiley Stoudemire for the open seat.

Twenty-four-year incumbent Sarah Heard is facing two challengers in the race for the District 4 seat on the Martin County Commission:  John Kazanjian, president of the Police Benevolent Association of Palm Beach County, and business owner John Dial.

Republican St. Lucie County Commissioner for District 4 Jamie Fowler will face the winner of the Aug. 18 Democrat primary between Jean Eddy Leroy and Roger Messer; and independent Nicholas Burgos.

Incumbent District 2 St. Lucie County Commissioner Larry Leet will square off against challenger Rolin Dorsainvil in the Nov. 3 General Election.
