A 19-year-old died after a motorcycle accident early Saturday morning on an exit ramp along Interstate 235 in Des Moines, authorities said.
Des Moines police and firefighters responded to a call of a motorcycle crash at the I-235 westbound 19th Street exit ramp near the Drake neighborhood on Saturday, March 14. First responders found a 19-year-old man with critical injuries, according to a news release from police spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek.

Life-saving measures were taken at the scene, and the man was taken to the UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center, where he later died, Parizek said. The name of the man had not been released.
Parizek told the Register that the man hit a concrete barrier and a signpost after he lost control of the motorcycle.
Preliminary investigation, witness statements and evidence at the scene indicated the man was driving the motorcycle “at a high rate of speed” and lost control before crashing and being thrown from the motorcycle, Parizek said. The motorcycle also caught fire.
Police Traffic Unit investigators were continuing investigation into the crash on Saturday.
