10 Iowa City-area wrestlers to watch at boys state wrestling

The 2026 Iowa boys state wrestling tournament will feature 35 wrestlers from the Iowa City area with plenty of talent worth watching.

We’ve narrowed it down to 10 wrestlers to watch when the state tournament begins at Casey’s Center in Des Moines. The festivities will run from from Wednesday, Feb. 18, through Saturday, Feb. 21.

Here are the wrestlers to watch in Des Moines.

Landon Bell, Sr., Iowa City Liberty

Bell is a four-time state qualifier who placed fifth at last season’s state tournament. After battling back from injury, Bell has fought his way to a 3A district title and earned a trip to Casey’s Center. The 175-pounder will take an 8-0 record into the 2026 Iowa boys state wrestling tournament.

Nolan Dao, So., Clear Creek Amana

Dao has produced a strong 35-8 sophomore campaign. A first-time state qualifier for CCA, Dao secured a district crown in 3A for the Clippers.

Lucas Feuerbach, Jr., Solon

Feuerbach placed second as a 215-pounder at last season’s state tournament in 2A. He has since bulked up to 285 pounds for his junior season. On Feb. 14, he secured a district title and improved his record to 43-2.   

Owin Koethe, Fr., Iowa City West

The son of Marshall Koethe, a two-time state wrestling champion, Owin Koethe is carving his own legacy in the high school ranks. He has been active on the mat, securing a 38-13 record in his debut season. He won a 144-pound district title in 3A.

Connor McGonegle, Jr., Iowa City Liberty

McGonegle will enter state with a 20-5 record. He secured a 3A district championship at 106 pounds.

Anderson Osgood, So., Solon

Osgood has been a young phenom for the Solon boys wrestling team this season. His dad, Ryan, was a former state champion, and Anderson has carved out his own stellar path as a young wrestler. The 2A district champion has compiled a 42-3 record.

Alexander Pierce, Sr., Iowa City West

The most seasoned wrestler on this list, Pierce is a four-time state qualifier and three-time state finalist. He won a 106-pound state title as a freshman before he placed second as a sophomore and as a junior at 113 pounds. This season, he will enter the 2026 state tournament with a 45-0 record at 126 pounds.

Diego Robertty, Fr., Iowa City West

Robertty is a part of West’s talented freshman class. The 113 pounder has gone 35-1 this season. He clinched a 3A district title on Feb. 14.

Simon Shetler, Jr., Iowa City Regina

Shetler is a 1A district champion that has boosted his junior record to 40-13. The 285-pounder is one of three state qualifiers for Regina.

Kane Willey, Sr., Iowa City High

In his second season with City High wrestling, Willey has compiled a 29-7 record as a senior. He will enter the 2025 state tournament as a 285-pound district champion in 3A.
