A 33-year-old woman was arrested by Bloomington police on Sunday afternoon after breaking into to her ex-boyfriend’s residence.
A neighbor called police at about 5:16 p.m. Sunday after noticing a woman breaking into a nearby residence through a window. The neighbor stated that person who lived there was not home.
Police officers formed a perimeter around the residence, giving verbal commands for the person to exit. The person refused, according to court documents. Officers then entered the residence and saw drywall and insulation falling from the attic.
Officers contacted the resident and was told the woman was his ex-girlfriend and he wanted her out of his house. Police made commands for her to come out of the attic, which she did not do. Three officers went into the attic, found the woman hiding and told her to leave the attic, which she did.
Police also found a broken front window in the residence. The suspect told police that her boyfriend had put her outside and she said, “so yeah I broke in” because it was “scorching hot” outside. She then said she went into the house to do laundry and when she heard banging at the door, she went into the attic to hide.
When questioned about why she didn’t come down after police requests she mentioned passing out once, the documents said.
The woman was arrested and charged with residential entry, Level 6 felony, and a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge for damages. Court documents show she has had five prior criminal mischief charges from 2011 to 2025.
