What does Evansville consider trash in city code? It's a long list

EVANSVILLE — After an update to a city ordinance, there’s a new definition of “trash, debris, garbage, junk and rubbish” for Evansville residents.

Ordinance G-2025-14, sponsored by Ben Trockman, D-First Ward, sets a more broad definition that members of the Building Commission and Area Plan Commission say will help them enforce local law.

The ordinance passed 8-0. Council member Jim Brinkmeyer, D-Sixth Ward, was absent Monday.

Here’s the full definition in the city ordinance:

“Trash, debris, garbage, junk and rubbish” are any combustible and noncombustible waste, materials, discarded items, and salvaged or inoperable materials that are stored, left, or abandoned in a manner that creates a public nuisance.

This can include − but isn’t limited to − materials, discarded items, and salvaged or inoperable materials that are stored, left, or abandoned creating a public nuisance like:
