Watch QB Daniel Jones throwing to receivers at Colts OTAs

INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts have been saying all along that they expected Daniel Jones to push the envelope in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.

From the looks of it, Jones is already back on the field for the Colts’ organized team activities this week, throwing in individual routes.

The team’s social media accounts posted video of Jones walking out to the field with his helmet and throwing to receivers on Tuesday.

Indianapolis head coach Shane Steichen indicated that Jones throwing in organized team activities might be a possibility weeks ago, revealing that Jones has been throwing for a while now.

“We’ve got to be smart,” Steichen said in early May. “I mean, could he probably do OTAs? Maybe. Like some seven-on-seven, do that stuff? Yeah, but I’ll be smart with that as we go forward.”

From the start, Jones has been optimistic that he’ll be able to return for the start of the regular season.

The recovery for an Achilles tendon tear has traditionally been a full year, but there have been several players in the NBA, including Boston’s Jayson Tatum, who’ve shown that the timeline might be shrinking over the last couple of years.

“He’s doing really good,” Steichen said in early May. “He’s dropping back, he’s throwing. He’s rehabbing all day every day. In the meetings, talking football, all that stuff. He’s in a really good spot.”
