Vote for the Ivy Tech Journal & Courier 3A, 4A softball player of year

Last week, with the high school sports season concluding, the Ivy Tech Journal & Courier player of the week poll was for the small schools in area softball.

This week, we direct it to the area’s 3A and 4A softball programs.

Which player from those programs had the best individual season?

That’s up for you to decide.

Voting will run through noon on Sunday, June 28, with the winner being announced on Monday.

This is a fan vote. The Journal & Courier will release its big school all-area team and player of the year at a later date.

Class 3A/4A softball player of the year fan vote

∎ Della Bossung, Harrison: Bossung slugged six of Harrison’s 10 home runs this season and batted .439. She also had five doubles and two triples, accounting for 13 total extra base hits that helped her lead the Raiders with 32 runs batted in. Bossung also tossed 37 innings with a 3.22 earned run average.

∎ Miya Clerget, Twin Lakes: A breakout sophomore season saw Clerget lead the Indians with a .464 batting average and team high 45 hits. In addition to her five doubles, one home run and 13 runs batted in, Clerget’s speed was crucial. She scored 25 runs and scored 11 bases.

∎ Rilee Clifton, Lafayette Jeff: Clifton helped lead the Bronchos to a North Central Conference title with a .467 batting average that included 17 extra base hits (11 doubles, 2 triples, 4 home runs). She also drove in 15 runs and led Jeff with 31 runs scored and 13 stolen bases.

∎ Addison Gillespie, McCutcheon: The junior outfielder had a perfect fielding percentage and a team-leading 22 runs batted in. Gillespie added a .344 batting average with four doubles, five triples and three home runs.

∎ Becca Knight, Harrison: The Raiders’ co-MVP led the team with a .446 batting average and 17 runs scored while tying Bossung for the team lead with 29 hits, including six doubles and two triples. She also drove in 15 runs and stole five bases.

∎ Molly Mansfield, West Lafayette: The Red Devils’ team MVP batted .319 with 20 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. In the circle, she went 9-6 with a 1.88 earned run average. Mansfield struck out 128 batters in 100 1/3 innings.

∎ Kaidynn Peckinpaugh, McCutcheon: Against a challenging schedule, Peckinpaugh’s batting average dipped as a senior. Her .293 average dropped her career number to .399. The ace of the Mavericks’ pitching staff, Peckinpaugh racked up a career high 147 strikeouts in 89 innings this season.

∎ Christina Susdorf, Crawfordsville: Susdorf led the Athenians in batting average (.438), hits (28), doubles (10), triples (1), home runs (3) and RBI (23).
