SOUTH BEND — Jackson Road closed Friday morning, May 1, between York Road and Ironwood Drive for the weekend and will experience other traffic disruptions and closures until May 22, weather permitting.
Drivers should plan ahead for detours or traffic.
Starting Monday, May 4, flaggers will direct traffic through one lane on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The road will then be closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
On weekends, for the duration of the project, Jackson will fully close from Friday evenings to Monday mornings and reopen on weekdays with restrictions.
During nighttime and weekend closures, traffic will detour to Ireland Road via Miami Road and Ironwood Drive.
Jackson is expected to fully reopen Friday, May 22, weather permitting.
The closures are due to NIPSCO gas main work.
Work on Locust Road, too
Another closure, a section of Locust Road between Prairie Avenue and Ireland Road, is closed for sewer and water main connection work. This section of road will be closed from May 4 through Friday, May 8, weather permitting.
The detour route will take drivers to Gertrude Street/Linden Road via Ewing Avenue and Ireland Road.
