Multiple departments respond to remote cabin fire in Kinross Township

Multiple area fire departments responded to a cabin fire on Thursday night.

According to the Kinross Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 7:43 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 for a smoke investigation in a remote wooded area near M-80 and Gaines Highway. Upon arrival, they found a fully involved cabin fire and called for assistance from neighboring agencies.

Because of the cabin’s remote location and limited access, crews used off-road vehicles and portable water equipment to battle the blaze. No injuries were reported, and the cause is unknown at this time.

Assisting agencies include the Pickford, Rudyard and Dafter fire departments as well as Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
