The New York Knicks are reveling in their first NBA championship in 53 years. Well, most of them are. With OG Anunoby, you never can tell.
The Knicks’ starters joined “Good Morning America” on Monday, a couple of days after winning league title over the San Antonio Spurs.
When Michael Strahan started asking Anunoby questions, he offered a non-committal smile. The former Indiana basketball player is well-known for rarely revealing emotion — or even saying much.
Strahan and Robin Roberts asked Anunoby about his late Game 4 tip-in that capped a Finals-record 29-point comeback and will forever be part of Knicks lore.
In familiar fashion, Anunoby said he realized the importance of what he had done, but knew more work was needed to secure the championship.
“Kind of, yeah, in the moment because we won,” he said. “I couldn’t dwell on it or be excited about it.”
“I was trying to dunk it,” Anunoby said, drawing laughter everyone else in the studio. “I couldn’t dunk it, but I just tried to touch it.”
The Knicks won the series in five games.
