According to court documents, Reed on April 16 went to a home in the 1200 block of East Hines Street and was “causing trouble,” witnesses told police.

A man reported Reed entered his truck, parked outside the home and removed a vehicle code reader, valued at more than $800.

When the man ran outside to confront Reed about taking his tools, Reed struck him in the head “with board or landscape timber,” the victim told officers.

According to an affidavit, Reed then threw down tools he had removed from the man’s truck and struck the truck with the piece of lumber before leaving the scene on foot.

The victim “had a large gash across most of his forehead and his skull was visible when I arrived,” a police officer wrote.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

When Reed was taken into custody, he reportedly admitted striking the man in the head with a 2-by-4.

Reed was also charged with theft, a Level 6 felony carrying up to 30 months in prison.

An initial hearing in the case is set for April 30.

According to court records, Reed has been convicted of crimes including auto theft, domestic battery, driving while intoxicated, possession of meth and theft.
