LAFAYETTE, IN — Lafayette police have concluded an internal investigation into the officer-involved shooting on April 12 that ended with the death of a 66-year-old Lafayette man.
About 12:15 a.m. that day, police responded to the intersection of North 22nd and Stillwell streets and encountered James Allison of Lafayette, armed with both a rifle and a handgun and refusing “to comply with multiple commands from the responding officers,” a news release said. “The resulting encounter led to an officer-involved shooting, and Mr. Allison was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Police had said no officers were injured.
On April 23, a Shooting Review Board was empaneled to evaluate the incident, Thursday’s news release said.
“After reviewing all available evidence and statements, the board determined that the actions of the six officers involved were consistent with department policy and training,” the release said. “All six officers have been cleared and returned to full duty.”
These officers were involved in the incident:
The administrative review conducted by the Lafayette Police Department is separate from any prosecutorial review, the release noted. The Tippecanoe County prosecutor’s office conducts an independent review of all officer-involved shootings, which is ongoing.
