EVANSVILLE — Evansville’s city-owned Lorraine Pool was tentatively set to open Friday on Evansville’s East Side, but that date has been pushed with no new timeline announced.
Via the Evansville Parks and Recreation Facebook page, officials said the pool opening has been delayed due to a mix of weather and “unexpected hiccups behind the scenes.”
“We know everyone’s excited to dive in, and we’re working as quickly (and safely!) as possible to get things ready,” the post states.
The pool was originally set to open June 19. That was then delayed to June 26, tentatively.
The Courier & Press left a message with Evansville City Councilor Rita Taylor (D-Second Ward), whose district includes Lorraine Pool, seeking comment on the delayed opening.
Last week, Parks and Recreation Executive Director Danielle Crook told the Courier & Press that the company working on the project had completed the main portion of the pool liner and was working on the diving well.
At that point, the department hoped to open Lorraine on June 26. Whenever work is complete, crews need two days to fill the pool and 48 hours for the Vanderburgh County Health Department to test the water.
Once the pool opens, hours will be Monday-Saturday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The closing date of the pool is currently set for Aug. 9.
The city’s two other pools are open.
