If there were any questions on whether the Seattle Seahawks were going to give a prominent role to former Irish running back Jadarian Price, their head coach Mike McDonald erased any doubt. Recently he said that Price “embodies what it means to be a Seahawk” and will be given the opportunity to compete for a significant role right away.
These words are not new, Macdonald has been consistent since draft night about the role he sees for Price. Just this week he said “We’re going to run wide zone and he’s going to run wide zone, and we’ll mix in gap schemes he can execute effectively.” He noted Price’s vision, cutback ability and contact balance as traits noted in the Seahawks evaluation of the running back.
He also mentioned how integral running backs are to the Seahawks passing game and praised Price’s ability to contribute on special teams as he continued to try to earn more touches in the crowded backfield.
Some publications suggest that Price could be the Week 1 starter while Zach Charbonnet recovers from an ACL injury. In a very run-oriented offense, but one that openly speaks of wanting to feature wide zone concepts, that could mean a heavy workload for whoever gets handed the ball.
For Notre Dame fans, they will have a lot to be proud of at the running back position with two being drafted in the opening round of the most recent NFL Draft.
If Jadarian Price is able to make an impact during his rookie season with the Super Bowl champions, it will only help the Notre Dame program continue to recruit blue-chip talent at the running back position.
