MUNCIE, IN — A 19-year-old Muncie man shot on the early morning of Sunday, July 19, has died.
Melissa Criswell, deputy chief of the Muncie Police Department, said Wednesday that 19-year-old Tyreaun Lee Watkins died at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was transferred after being taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.
Two other Muncie men shot early Sunday in the city’s Industry neighborhood — 22 and 18 years old, respectively — were both listed in stable condition on Monday.
The shootings were reported about 1 a.m. Sunday in the area of First and Ebright streets.
In the wake of the gunfire, a large section of the Industry neighborhood — bounded by Hackley Street on the west, Beacon Street on the east and Kirby Avenue on the south — was marked off with yellow crime-scene tape for several hours on Sunday.
No related arrests had been announced as of Wednesday afternoon.
Criswell said Wednesday that the MPD is “working diligently on this case.”
