MUNCIE, IN — Muncie police are investigating the shootings of three people on the early morning of Sunday, July 19.
According to Melissa Criswell, Muncie Police Department deputy chief, police and emergency medical responders were sent to a report of shots fired in the area of First and Ebright streets about 1 a.m.
Three shooting victims were found in the area, and were taken by ambulance to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, she said. Information on the victims’ conditions was not available.
“The Muncie Police Department has contained the potential scene,” Criswell said in a release. “No further information is available at this time, while this investigation is ongoing.”
Early Sunday afternoon, several Muncie police cars remained in the area, and yellow crime-scene tape surrounded a large area, bounded by Hackley Street on the west, Beacon Street on the east and Kirby Avenue on the south.
Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene said there were no shooting-related deaths in Muncie overnight.
Two of the local shooting victims were reportedly transferred to hospitals in Indianapolis.
