Purdue basketball's French big man arrives, eligibility status on hold

Purdue men’s basketball’s international addition for 2026-27 has cleared his first hurdle for joining the program.

Enzo Shahrvin received his via clearance and has arrived in West Lafayette, IndyStar confirmed. The 23-year-old, 6-7 frontcourt player from France can begin practicing with the Boilermakers immediately.

Still to be determined, however, is whether Shahrvin will be cleared by the NCAA. Until that is resolved, Sharavin cannot compete even in the coming exibition games in Canada. A team source said Purdue does not expect resolution of that eligibility issue before leaving for Vancouver on Friday.

Shahrvin was recruited as a one-year addition, as the NCAA’s new age-based eligibilty model would prevent him from playing beyond age 24. He spent the past two seasons with Paris Basketball of the EuroLeague. The NCAA told teams in May it would be more strict about eligibility rulings for athletes who earned money beyond what the governing body calls “actual and necessary expenses.”

According to the EuroLeague website, Shahrvin averaged 2.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 11 games this season. He also played six games for Paris Basketball last season. He was a member of the French U20 national team. His championship experience with Paris Basketball includes the 2024 EuroCup and the 2024 French Leaders Cup.

He is expected to add a rugged, physical dynamic inside for a team replacing leading rebounders Trey Kaufman-Renn and Oscar Cluff.
