Muncie men charged with dealing fentanyl after trips to western Ohio

MUNCIE, IN — Two Muncie men have been accused of trafficking drugs on Muncie’s west side.

Darrell Bruce Crone Jr., 56 — listed at what members of the Muncie-Delaware County Drug Task referred to as a “known drug location” in the 1800 block of North Morrison Road — and Hasaun Kareem Jackson, 33, were arrested on Thursday, June 18.

A week later, on June 25, both men were charged in Delaware Circuit Court 2 with dealing in a narcotic drug, possession of a narcotic drug and unlawful possession of a handgun.

The dealing charges are Level 2 felonies with maximum 30-year sentences.

According to an affidavit, a source told task force members that a Kia Sportage seen at the Morrison Road address was frequently being used to transport fentanyl from Trotwood, Ohio — a suburb of Dayton — to Muncie.

Crone and Jackson were arrested after a traffic stop near 29th Street and Meeker Avenue. After a police K-9 indicated there were narcotics in the Sportage, officers found more than 80 grams of fentanyl and a handgun in the vehicle’s center console.

Crone — formerly of Parker City — reportedly admitted he had been making trips to western Ohio to buy narcotics. He said the fentanyl bought on the day of his arrest cost $1,200, the court document said.

Crone continued to be held in the Delaware County Jail on Thursday under a $52,500 bond. Jackson’s bond was set at $50,000.

According to court records, Crone has been convicted of crimes including burglary.

At the time of his latest arrest, he faced two charges — possession of a narcotic drug and possession of paraphernalia — filed against him in Circuit Court 2 in December. His trial in that case is set for Nov. 10.

Jackson has been convicted of conspiracy to commit auto theft, false identity statement, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a narcotic drug.
