LAFAYETTE, IN — Kendrea Williams kept Lafayette and West Lafayette police busy late Monday night after being suspected of battery and theft in Romney Meadows before fleeing to the west side, according to police department spokesmen.
Williams, 33, of the 93000 block of South Chappel Avenue in Chicago, got into a domestic-related fight in Romney Meadows about 11: 05 p.m. Monday, Lafayette police said. The fight was in the 3000 block of Keyes Court.
The 29-year-old woman whom Williams allegedly assaulted suffered a severe ear injury and injuries from being strangled and bitten, according to Lafayette police.
Williams then took a Chevy Malibu and fled, leading police on a chase, Lafayette police said.
The chase went into West Lafayette, and Williams wrecked the car at the roundabout at Tapawingo Drive and State Street, according to Lafayette police.
West Lafayette officers caught Williams, who ran from the car and led police on a brief foot chase, according to West Lafayette police.
Williams was taken to Franciscan Health, and there he is accused of battering a police officer, according to Lafayette police bulletins.
Officers jailed Williams after he was cleared at the hospital and booked him into the Tippecanoe County Jail.
He remained jailed Wednesday morning on suspicion of domestic battery with serious bodily injury, strangulation, criminal confinement, violating a no-contact order, resisting law enforcement and driving while intoxicated. Additionally, West Lafayette police accuse him of reckless driving and resisting law enforcement.
Williams also is wanted on three warrants, according to jail records.
