McCutcheon golfer Matthew Oakley rallies at state in second round

Matthew Oakley staved off a sluggish first round at the IHSAA boys golf state finals.

The McCutcheon sophomore carded an 86 in Tuesday’s opening round at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, placing him 90th through 18 holes.

Oakley bounced back, climbing up the leaderboard and finishing tied for 66th after shooting a 75 in the second round.

Oakley finished 17 over with a two-day total of 161 as McCutcheon’s first state finals representative in boys golf since 1993.

Westfield won the team title with a cumulative score of 592, finishing one stroke ahead of Center Grove for the state championship. The Shamrocks were led by individual medalist Hudson Kutchma.
