HOUSTON – The Detroit Tigers have another injury.
This time, it’s an unusual injury from an accident in the training room.
Outfielder Wenceel Pérez was struck in the face by a plyometric band in the training room Tuesday, June 16, during his typical postgame routine after the Tigers’ 4-2 loss to the Houston Astros in the second of three games at Daikin Park.
He remains under evaluation.
The Tigers hope to have a further update after Wednesday’s game, which means Pérez likely won’t be available to play.

For Wednesday’s game, the Tigers started Kerry Carpenter in right field, Matt Vierling in center field and Riley Greene in left field against Astros right-hander Peter Lambert.
In 2026, Pérez is hitting .180 with seven home runs, 14 walks and 29 strikeouts across 53 games. He has registered minus-5 defensive runs saved over 302 innings in right field.
