LAFAYETTE, IN — A police officer leaned into an Indianapolis man’s car to apprehend him during a traffic stop, police say, and the driver took off, dragging the officers and sparking a three-county chase.
Officers stopped Jordan Dé Sean Carter, 21, of the 1300 block of Wright Street in Indianapolis, in the area of Indiana 38 and Maple Point Drive near the Tippecanoe Mall about 10:15 p.m. Monday.
“Carter fled in the vehicle while the officers were partially inside the vehicle attempting to detain him,” Lafayette police said.
This started a pursuit as Carter led officers south from Lafayette. Officers from Tippecanoe, Clinton and Boone counties sheriffs’ departments and Indiana State Police joined the chase.
The chase ended in Boone County after Carter crashed into a wooded area.
Officers jailed Carter on suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, reckless driving and resisting law enforcement, according to Tippecanoe County Jail records. He remained jailed without bond on Tuesday afternoon.
