Ex-Wayne County man gets 10 years for dealing conviction

RICHMOND, IN — A former Hagerstown man convicted of dealing in a narcotic drug has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Kain J. Grose, 31, more recently of Garrett in northeastern Indiana, had pleaded guilty to that charge, along with conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic drug.

Judge April Drake imposed the sentence on Monday, June 22. After his 10-year prison term, Grose will serve five years on electronic home detention.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, a third count — dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death, a Level 1 felony carrying up to 40 years in prison — was dismissed.

According to a news release issued by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Grose’s arrest in December 2024 followed an investigation of the overdose death of Jamen David Riggs, 40, of Cambridge City, on May 31, 2023.

A co-defendant, Solomon El Williams, 36, of Richmond, remains charged with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death. His trial is set to begin on Sept. 15.
