Indiana shows postponed after Bluegrass artist breaks leg skateboarding

Fans who bought tickets to see acclaimed Bluegrass artist Billy Strings at the Fishers Event Center this week will have to wait a little while longer to hear him perform live — the Grammy winner broke his leg doing a skateboard stunt.

The Billy Strings concerts originally scheduled April 24-26 have been postponed until August 6-8, 2026. Ticket holders should retain their tickets as they will be honored for the rescheduled dates.

Fans warned Billy Strings about ‘screwing around’ on skateboard before horrible accident

Strings, born William Lee Apostol, broke his leg over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. On Monday, April 20, he joked on Instagram and Facebook fans had warned him about his skateboard.

“Well, can’t say y’all didn’t warn me about screwing around on my skateboard!!,” String said in the post, which included X-ray images of his broken leg.

“Saturday night I walked off stage right before the encore I was all zazzed up from a really fun show,” he said. “I grabbed my board and tried to do a trick I’ve done a million times (back 180) and landed awkwardly and broke my leg. I heard it snap over the screaming crowd!! Sounded like a damn 2×4.”

Billy Strings assures fans their tickets are still good

Strings, of Ionia, Michigan, broke his leg at John Paul Jones Arena, in Charlottesville, Virginia. In the same post, he complimented hospital staff and said that doctors, friends, musicians as well as his wife recommended he take time off to rest.

“It’s been an interesting couple days to say the least complete with the most extreme pain and crazy ketamine trips and operations stuff but the staff here at UVA rules,” he said. “They screwed me all back together. They are absolute angels on Earth.”

“Your tickets will be good for the new dates,” Strings wrote in the post. “Again, I’m really sorry and I promise I will make it up to you. See you this summer,” he said.
