Harrison athletic director Andre Thomas moving into different EVSC position

EVANSVILLE — Harrison High School athletic director Andre Thomas is moving to a different position within the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation.

EVSC Chief Communications Officer Jason Woebkenberg confirmed the change to the Courier & Press on Tuesday, March 31. The exact details or title of the new role was not clearly specified by Woebkenberg beyond “another position within the EVSC supporting student attendance.”

Thomas told the Courier & Press the change goes into effect immediately.

“After a rewarding period in my current role, I am excited to share that I am transitioning into a new position within the corporation,” Thomas said in a statement. “The move represents a natural evolution of my career here and allows me to focus my effort working with students and families in a broader capacity. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Harrison High School, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the EVSC long-term success in this new chapter.”

Thomas wasn’t listed in the Harrison High School staff directory by Tuesday morning. Assistant principal Sara Loete was added to the Indiana High School Athletic Association directory as the acting athletic director.

Thomas, a 2000 Harrison graduate, played college football (Toledo) and basketball (John A. Logan College, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville) before beginning a teaching career. After four years in Florida, he returned to Evansville in 2011 as the football coach at Bosse High School.

Thomas coached the Bulldogs for four seasons, simultaneously coaching girls basketball (won the 2013 sectional championship) for the same duration, before accepting the boys basketball head coach position at North High School. He was named the athletic director at Harrison prior to the 2017-18 school year.

Thomas was also the interim head girls basketball coach and assistant football coach this school year.
