MUNCIE, IN — A Muncie man who was already the target of a police manhunt has now been charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Those charges — filed on Tuesday, April 28, in Delaware Circuit Court 5 — are Level 1 felonies carrying up to 40 years in prison.
According to court documents, 32-year-old De Vonte Marquies Williams late Sunday evening shot two people at a home in the 1600 block of East Second Street.
One victim, a man, was shot in the “shoulder/back area,” according to an affidavit.
The other victim, a woman, had a gunshot wound in her buttocks, the document said.
Both were taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital and were listed in stable condition on Monday, Deputy Police Chief Melissa Criswell said.
Police viewed a surveillance video that showed a white Jeep, believed to be driven by Williams, repeatedly traveling past the scene of the shootings. Four gunshots are heard on that recording, the affidavit said.
In a separate incident, Williams is also accused of beating up his girlfriend, leaving her with “visible injuries in her mouth, and bite marks on her arms,” an officer wrote.
Based on those allegations, he is charged with domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony with a maximum 30-month sentence.
Anyone with information on Williams’ whereabouts is asked to call Muncie police detectives at 765-747-4867, or dispatchers at 765-747-4838.
The Muncie man should be be considered “armed and dangerous,” Criswell said.
According to court records, Williams has been convicted of crimes including possession of cocaine, carrying a handgun without a license and leaving the scene of an accident.
