CJ Carr's independent streak led him to Notre Dame instead of Michigan

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are led by a quarterback, CJ Carr, whose grandfather was once the head coach at Michigan, which is one of Notre Dame’s biggest rivals.

That’s probably because Carr has an independent streak. Similar to his late brother Chad, who passed away from brain cancer at just five years old in 2015.

If CJ Carr didn’t have such an independent streak, he could be at Michigan, helming the Wolverines. Instead, he’s Notre Dame’s most-talented quarterbook since Ian Book, and a guy who could both lead the Irish to a national championship and be taken in the first round of the NFL draft. If he’s a first-round draft pick, he’d be the first Irish QB to earn that honor since Brady Quinn in 2007.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg has more.
