Former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard’s campaign for secretary of state was fined $450 for filing two donation reports after the deadline, according to a June 19 campaign press release.
“We will not contest the decision,” his campaign said in the release.
Ballard, a former Republican, is running for secretary of state under a newly created Lincoln Party. The office, which is currently held by Republican Secretary of State Diego Morales, oversees the Indiana Election Division, the entity that fined Ballard.
The two reports Ballard filed late were large contribution reports, which have to be filed within seven days of receipt.
According to campaign finance records, the first donation report was due on May 28 and not submitted until June 1. It involved a $10,000 contribution. The second report was due on May 29 and was also submitted on June 1. It was for a direct large contribution worth $78,000 from a group called Hoosiers for Competitive Elections.
The ex-mayor recently also came under scrutiny after the Hamilton County Republican Party accused a former Ballard campaign volunteer of submitting fraudulent signatures.
Elections Division staff and a spokesperson for the secretary of state’s office did not immediately respond to an email confirming the fine and when it was issued.
