Mills Pool will open for the season on Friday, June 19. The pool on the city’s north side was expected to open for the Memorial Day weekend in May but was postponed after a substantial leak was discovered while filling the pool.
The repairs that have been completed are intended to allow the pool to operate safely through the 2026 season, Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department officials said in a news release. However, they cautioned that the underlying issues have not been fully resolved.
“We are pleased to be able to welcome swimmers this summer,” said Tim Street, parks and recreation director, in the news release. “The repairs address the immediate concerns that prevented the pool from opening, but the pool’s plumbing and infrastructure continue to require attention.”
Most of the pool’s plumbing system is underneath the concrete pool deck. The completed repairs will allow the pool to operate but more investigation, planning and construction work will be needed after the pool closes for the season. A more comprehensive assessment of the pool’s infrastructure will be conducted in the fall to determine the scope of long-term repairs and future capital needs, the release said.
Mills Pool, at 1100 W. 14th St., will be open daily, weather permitting, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning June 19. Daily general admission is $7 per person. Economy punch passes with 20 admissions are available for $100 and season passes are $90 for unlimited admission for one person for the season. Admission to the pool will be free on Saturday, July 4. Mills Pool will remain open until Aug. 3.
Pool admission fee waivers are available to qualifying children. Contact the parks and recreation department online or call 812-349-3700.
Bloomington’s other city pool, Bryan Park Pool, opened for the season on May 23. Bryan Park Pool will be open daily through Aug. 3 and then open weekends only Aug. 8 through Sept. 7.
For more information about hours of operation, call the city’s Splash & Skate hotline at 812-349-3741.
