Cameron Mitchell’s tenure with the Colts
The Colts signed Mitchell to the practice squad last season prior to the team’s Week 6 matchup with Arizona. Before that, Mitchell had spent his first two-plus NFL seasons in Cleveland, where he was a fifth-round pick in 2023. Just before the Colts signed him, he was released by the Browns.
Recapping Cameron Mitchell’s 2025 season
Mitchell was eventually added to the 53-man roster as the Colts dealt with injuries at cornerback. He finished the season appearing in eight games defensively, which includes making one start, and playing 225 snaps.
He allowed just nine completions on 18 targets, surrendering only 5.8 yards per catch. Mitchell also forced four pass breakups, according to PFF. Among all cornerbacks, he ranked 21st in forced incompletion rate.
Looking ahead to the 2026 season for Cameron Mitchell
Mitchell finds himself in a crowded cornerback room. With Sauce Gardner, Charvarius Ward, and Justin Walley accounting for three roster spots, there are two to three up for grabs depending on how many cornerbacks the team keeps.
Mitchell, along with Cam Taylor-Britt, Mekhi Blackmon, Johnathan Edwards, and Jaylon Jones, will be competing for those available roster spots. Of this group of players, two or three won’t make the team.
Mitchell’s experience at the NFL level playing both nickel cornerback and lining up outside could be to his advantage, allowing him to provide depth at two potential positions.
