Update: A jury convicted Malik Shaw of two counts of murder on July 31, 2025. A verdict was not reached on a third murder charge, according to court records. Shaw was sentenced Aug. 27, 2025 to serve 116 years at the Indiana Department of Corrections for the killing of Aaliyah Wortman and Londyn Coleman. The prosecutor plans to retry Shaw on the third murder charge in September. The pending murder charge was moved to federal court on May 20, 2026.
Police have arrested a man in connection with a triple killing in Lawrence last Friday.
Malik Shaw, 24, was arrested Monday and has been preliminarily charged with three counts of murder and charges from an unrelated warrant, officials said in a news release.
The shooting happened just after 7:20 p.m. Friday in the 4400 block of Duxbury Lane at an apartment complex near East 46nd Street and North Post Road.
Aaliyah Wortman, 19, from Marion, Londyn Coleman, 19, from Warsaw and Spencer Lawson, 27, of Indianapolis were all pronounced dead at the scene.
“This uncalled-for heinous crime should not occur in any community,” Lawrence Police Deputy Chief Travis Cline said in a news release.
Police said in a news release after the killings that detectives believed the shooting was targeted but didn’t provide additional details.
“While an arrest has been made, the investigation is far from over,” Cline said in the news release. “We are committed to uncovering any other individuals behind these crimes and will continue to work diligently until all those responsible are brought to justice.”
Anyone with information regarding the shooting are urged to call the Lawrence Police Department at 317-545-7575 or anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.
