The Indianapolis Colts will start training camp as a relatively healthy football team.
When speaking with the local media on Tuesday, GM Chris Ballard mentioned that no one is expected to begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, according to James Boyd of The Athletic.
First and foremost, as Ballard also acknowledged, this means that quarterback Anthony Richardson will be available for the first training camp practice, although the team will monitor his throwing volume.
Also of note, while Zaire Franklin, who had offseason ankle surgery, said he won’t be ready for Day 1 of training camp, the fact that he isn’t going on the PUP list tells us that he should be available sooner rather than later.
This is also good news for fellow linebacker Jaylon Carlies, who underwent offseason shoulder surgery and did not practice during OTAs or minicamp, along with Jaylon Jones, who missed time this offseason with a “soft tissue injury,” according to the Indy Star’s Joel Erickson.
Ballard specifically mentioned that Samson Ebukam, who missed all of the 2024 season with an Achilles injury, has been cleared, but he may need a ramp-up period first.
Within what can be done under the CBA, Ballard added that this will be a physical training camp for the Colts and that he’s happy with the overall competition on the roster.
