Action starts with field events at 6 p.m, followed by the 4×800 and prelims as South looks to repeat as team champ.

Only the top three and those who meet the state standard advance to the IHSAA state finals in Indianapolis and a few battles look to be fierce based on sectional results.

Seemingly well ahead of the fields are Bloomington South’s Ellie Barada in the 800 (5 seconds) and 1,600 (seven), Jasmine Martoglio in the 3,200 (34 seconds) and Adriene Shaevitz in the 100 hurdles (.58) and all three of the Panthers relays.

In the 800, South’s Lexi Kollbaum, Martinsville’s Laura Barco and North’s Hayden McGuire all finished within two seconds of each other. Behind Martoglio in the 3,200 are seven who clocked in between 11:12 and under 11:42 last week, a group that includes North’s Penny Eads and Eastern Greene’s Esther Crane.

The top two in the 300 hurdles. including Shaevitz, are the only ones under 47, but the next four, a group that includes North’s Sophia Winkle, Edgewood’s Kelsey Davis and South’s Claire Hill, are separated by just 1.07 seconds. With call-backs, Winkle is in three individual events.

In the 100, South’s Helena Cutshall (12.59) is a third seed with the next two within .17 while Violet Hall is the No. 2 seed in the 200 by just .01. Cutshall (16-10½) is also a fourth seed in the long jump, where the top three broke 17 feet last week.

In the pole vault, six reached 9-0 last week, just two go over 10-0. North’s Delilah Kilbride (8-6) hopes she can return to the 10-0 mark she reached earlier this year. And in shot put, North’s Ashley Greer is one of seven between 34-0 and 36-4 last week seeded behind Edgewood’s Macey Crider, who has hit 40-footers several times this year.

In the 4×100 relay, fourth-place Edgewood’s sectional time (school record 50.00) is just .35 behind Columbus North. In the 4×400 relay, Bloomington North’s third place time (4:10.46) is just .4 ahead of Southwestern (Hanover).
