SOUTH BEND — Second District South Bend Common Council member Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers will host Neighborhood Clean-up Day on Saturday, May 23, in the 2nd District.
“I think it’s an encouragement to the people that live in the area. Once they see that somebody really cares, maybe it’s going to help them to do a little better in the area themselves,” Gooden-Rodgers said in a phone call with The Tribune. “I also feel that cleanliness is godliness.”
Those interested in participating in the neighborhood cleanup are asked to meet at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, 1601 W. Sample St.
The cleanup is from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be coffee, doughnuts, fruit and water ahead of the cleanup, Gooden-Rodgers said. South Bend provides trash bags, trash grabbers and gloves.
The Rev. Charles Zawistowksi of St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church is co-sponsoring the event with Gooden-Rodgers.
